Le Grand Portage

I have spent many summers on long canoe trips in the Ontario wilderness. These experiences have helped shape my personality.

One of the most memorable parts of these trips was the historic wilderness trail the Grand Portage – a 13 km path from the Pigeon River to the shores of Lake Superior.

The Grand Portage was the last step of a 37-day expedition and as a young canoe tripper, it served as an intimidating, tough, but yet rewarding rite of passage. As an MS patient, it now embodies the long road ahead – for me, and for all of my fellow MS patients.

Run this symbolic Grand Portage of MS together, and contribute to helping millions arrive safely to the other side.

This year, Le Grand Portage is two events:

1

The relay

Once again this year, 40 teams will take turns portaging a canoe between Toronto and Montréal, each completing a 13 km section for a total distance of 700km.
2

The virtual event

We encourage you to run, walk, or ride – your choice – on Sunday, October 16, 2022.

Thank you for helping us support science!

An estimated 90,000 Canadians live with multiple sclerosis.

By donating to Le Grand Portage, your gift will help fund joint research projects led by Dr Jack Antel (Neuro-McGill) and Dr Alexandre Prat (CHUM-Université de Montréal), focused on the immunological and neurological mechanisms involved in the development and progression of MS. This knowledge is a necessary step towards better treatment options for the disease.

Dating back more than 35 years, this unique collaboration between two of Montreal’s great medical institutions stands at the forefront of world knowledge on MS.

Le Grand Portage 2022 program will provide the opportunity to advance the programs at Neuro-McGill and CHUM-Université de Montréal and to build new bridges with other centers, focusing on the BARLO MS Centre St Michael’s Hospital/U of Toronto with which Drs. Antel and Prat already have established collaborations*.

All your donations (100%) will go to research, and you will receive a tax receipt from the Université de Montréal.

Thank you for helping us support science.

* Distribution of donations: 55% for the UdeM-CHUM and 45% for The Neuro. In order to ensure a constant source of revenue in the search for a cure for Multiple Sclerosis, 15% of all donations received will be capitalized in a UdeM endowment fund.
